Biography

In October 2024, the idea for a new cultural association in Kleve was born. The members of AORTA intended to build on past initiatives and collectives such as the “Kulturraum Kleverland”. Their aim was to value and incorporate the experiences of these groups whilst developing fresh, forward-looking perspectives.

The journey from the initial vision to the first event in November 2025 was characterised by intensive planning, lively discussions and careful decision-making. It was important to the members not only to create a space for artistic and creative exchange, but also to foster an environment sensitive to issues of discrimination. Decisions were always made on the basis of consensus to promote harmonious cooperation.

Over time, a network has developed that encompasses both young and experienced professional artists, as well as dedicated amateurs. Initially, the search for a suitable space and the necessary financial resources proved challenging. Following a brief stint in the city centre, AORTA is now delighted to have found a long-term home in the former sex shop on the corner of Kavarienerstraße and Heldstraße.

AORTA’s members bring a diverse range of backgrounds and experiences to the association, which greatly enriches it. Information about individual members and their artistic work can be found on Instagram or enquired about at one of the events. AORTA stands for open exchange and a vibrant cultural scene in Kleve.
